Are Comedians Cool?

by The Comedy Nerds on March 1, 2010

This week we ask the question “Is comedy cool?” On one hand, a lot of cool people seem to like it, so that’s cool. But comedians do a lot of ridiculous, humiliating things. That’s not cool. Dan and Dustin will try to get to the bottom of it, while contemplating the cool paradox: if you try to be cool, you are not cool, if you don’t try to be cool, you are cool. Unless you’re not. But then maybe the sheer amount of your uncoolness makes you cool. I know three things that are definitely cool no matter what though, smoking behind the school, hoverboards, and recording an entire episode about whether something is cool or not. Bam! Super-cool!

Cool

Plus! Why did celebrities take second jobs on Scooby Doo? The rules that govern 80s movie house parties. And we decide to Cold Case that shit. Let’s do this!

I used to have a Scooby Doo game for Nintendo GameCube that featured Don Knotts as the security guard, which I always thought was a callback to his days as Barney Fife.

Here’s the Mt. Airy Lodge commercial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3dOsgyw7yBw

Re: Boobs: Back in the late 90′s/early 00′s, I saw Stephen Lynch and Jay Mohr perform at Rascals in West Orange, NJ. This was back during the height of Opie & Anthony’s popularity on KRock, and it was a Wednesday night show. At one point someone from the audience shouted out “Whip ‘Em Out Wednesday!”, to which Mohr asked if anyone in the crowd wanted to come up and show their boobs. I think he was only half-kidding, but sure enough, a woman from the audience went up and flashed her IBT’s to the appreciative crowd.

I gotta think there’s a very short list of comedians where that would’ve actually happened.

Roger, that game cube thing is awesome. I feel like we should all be playing that game all the time. Thank you 80′s for making games like that. Also, appreciate you finding the Mt. Airy Lodge commercial. I don’t know why they stopped using the commercial just because they redid the place. It still says everything you need to know.
And I think that all comments should include the phrase “Re: Boobs”. They are never not relevant.
