The Jay Leno Show First Night Review

by The Comedy Nerds on September 14, 2009

Jay LenoIt’s finally here.  Monday night The Jay Leno Show debuted and the Comedy Nerds were there to review/examine/critique it.  Was the new Jay as crazy sexy cool as we all hoped he would be?  Where the correspondents Daily Show quality awesome?  Did Jay really just ask Kanye what his dead mom would think of him?  Really?  Really?

So should you watch it or find other 10 pm fun?  We’ll try to help you decide.

Thanks for the comment Jon! We are always interested to hear from a listener, no matter what they have to say. I am a little confused though. When you say “jay leno is alot better than you guys will ever dream”, do you mean that when we dream about Jay Leno (which, let’s face it, we do often), that he is better in real life than the Jay Leno our subconcious invents?

Also you wrote “my reviews on your site is fucking horrible, cheesy and just lame”. Have you written reviews for us? I wasn’t aware of that, but I think you are being to hard on yourself. I’m sure the reviews that you wrote for our site are quite good.

Finally you said “go get a real job because this is not working”. Are we getting paid for this? Hooray! Now I can afford to buy milk for my baby!

Thanks again for listening Jon! I have to go die somewhere now. So long!

The prmo joke that you loved so much was actually first used by Letterman on his CBS debut so in effect this was stolen material. That said, your review was pretty spot on and seemed to be an honest review. To me, this was simply the old show minus the desk, shorter monologue and rearrangement of the Headlines bit.

You guys are comedy nerds! (but that is a good thing) I am not a big fan of the Tonight show either. All I care about when I watch comedy is, is it funny? I don’t care about innovation I want to laugh and I want to laugh hard. I laughed but I didn’t laugh hard. Leno seemed nervous which is understandable. I like the idea of a comedy variety show at 10pm. Maybe because I am old and remember that’s the way it was back in the day. I switched to football on ESPN after the Dan Band.

Mike. I agree about a variety show at 10. If there was a good one I would be all about it. I love the thought of having a daily good comedy source. That’s why I love the Daily Show and Colbert so much. It’s always going to be at least pretty good. You know you can end the day with a laugh, it’s just so hard to do a good one of those on a network. Or at least the networks like to act like that.

Bob, thanks for the heads-up about the Letterman thing. yeah, it totally was the old show. Conan must be super pissed now.

When I am writing my bad reviews and death threats, I like to use Spellcheck. Nothing takes the edge out of a death threat like a typo.

hey,
you guys are dead on. so funny.

I completely agree with this. Also, the dan band is originally in old school singing “total eclipse of the heart”. Good review!

I agree the music could have been a lot better, it seemed too 90s
