Currently doing a show in London with my sketch group Canadian Content. We also perform improv under the name Urban Improv and most of our sketches have come from improv scenes with the beginnings and endings tweaked for clarity and sometimes (but not often) tightened.

Using improv as the springboard takes the sketches in directions that aren’t expected. All of us have worked on cancelled sketch television in Canada and often what seems a good pitch in the writer’s room because everyone immediately gets it makes for a bland sketch because the audience gets it in the first few seconds too. Improv helps break that curse, at least for us.
