No, we’re not talking about Michael Scott and his team.  We’re talking about that jack-ass at the office who is still…still doing a Borat impression or the person who still kills in the conference room repeating lines from last night’s Family Guy. This week we ask:

What is the difference between jokes that work in the office and at the comedy club?  Will comedians always lose to people getting hit in the nuts on YouTube?  Will Dan ever get over not being selected Class Clown in college?  (Spoiler Alert: No!)

We welccome back awesome stand-up comedian Claudia Cogan and Comedy Nerds regular Michael Hartney to join in on the discussion.

I know exactly what you’re talking about with people telling jokes from stand up, and delivering completely wrong. I always call people out on it because I have watched way more stand up than they have.

I always make sure to reference, unless bitches are involved, then all bets are off.

Everyone needs somewhere to shine, so let the person at the office get their light.

I use a Richter scale of jokes, and use terrible ones to make sure people don’t laugh at everything. If they laugh, I don’t tell jokes around them because they give me false confidence; people who laugh at fart noises don’t hear my real stuff.

Yeah, the only thing about referencing is that in conversation sometimes I’ll quote someone’s joke, then I’ll reference it after (because stopping the conversation to say the reference first would make the funny lose its impact, also when we reference things in writing usually the quote comes first and the reference after). This is all well and good, but occasionally I will say the joke and then before I get to the end someone (Nick), will jump down my throat and accuse me of stealing. So although I agree that people should reference when they quote, I think you can also err on the side of being too vigilant.

Also, from now on I’ll be airing all my Nick Turner-related issues on this website.
