Comedy Character

by The Comedy Nerds on March 13, 2009

steven wrightEver successful comedian has a “character” they play on stage.   Some are similar to their own.  Others are entirely contrived.  But you know when you see Steven Wright you know who you are going to get  a one liner comedian who is a little spaced out and when you see Lewis Black you know you are going to see an angry man yelling at how stupid the world is.  They are solid, specific and well defined characters.

So this week we look at comedy character. Why is it essential for a comedian to have a character?  What restrictions does it put on them?  Can a comedian overcome a bad character.  We welcome back comedian Mike Blejer to discuss.
